Kazan international airport celebrates its 35th anniversaryToday, on September 15, 2014 Kazan international airport celebrates its 35th anniversary. This day, 35 years ago, the first flight from the airport was performed on TU-134 plane on the route Kazan-Sochi under command of pilot Yevgenii Afinogenov with 76 passengers on board. This date is considered as the official airport’s birthday. However, the history of Kazan international airport started in 1972, when it came to a decision to build Kazan-2 airport with 2 500 meters runway. Joint squadron commanding officer Ulfat Mustafin headed the construction.
Kazan airport received the status of international airport in 1986.
Kazan international airport today is one of the largest airports in Russia playing leading role in development and offering high-level service to passengers. Kazan airport offers flights within Russia and abroad as well as providing charter flights. Route network of Kazan international airport counts about 60 domestic and international destinations. More than 13 000 flights and about 2 million passengers are served at Kazan international airport annually.
