The creation of a cargo hub at the Kazan airport: the arrival of the test flights
The test transit flights by the AirBridgeCargo airline on the Boeing 747-800 cargo aircrafts have arrived at the Kazan international airport of Gabdulla Tukay name, within implementation of project on creation a cargo hub at the Kazan airport. The main aim of the project is development the airport as a transport facility in which service of cargo traffic will be carried out in perspective.
The Minister of Transport and Road Management of RT, Lenar Safin said, at the end of the last year, in Tatarstan have been launched implementing a joint project with the a group of companies the Volga-Dnepr, in particular, with AirBridgeCargo and АTRAN airlines to open a cargo hub at the Kazan international airport for organizing air cargo transportation from Europe and Asia. A joint working group was set up at the Ministry to address organizational issues and a road map was approved.
Besides, Lenar Safin noted, that Kazan international airport is a multifunctional airport complex with huge potential. Today, the Republic has aim of further development of air infrastructure. The airport is ready to provide the necessary ground equipment for performing the regular transit flights and preparing a joint business plan for the development of the air harbor.
Director General of AirBridgeCargo Nikolay Glushnev noted, that Kazan airport airfield has high technical equipment and qualified staff. Previously, the airline has repeatedly performed cargo flights to Kazan, the quality of service and operational efficiency have always been at a high level. This is also why Kazan airport was chosen to create a transit point. These flights are the company’s next step in developing the domestic Russian cargo market.
The test transit flights, which arrived on 22 and 23 January, were loaded from Frankfurt and Liege and headed to Hong Kong.
In the further is planning to organize a line station of servicing AirBridgeCargo and АTRAN aircrafts, perform the several transit flights with Boeing’s 747 per week on a regular basis, and commercial flights on the Boeing 737.

As part of the project for creation, a cargo hub at the Kazan airport, the volume of cargo flights including transit flights is increasing.
For example, in March, AirBridgeCargo's Boeing 747 aircraft bound for European countries are serviced at Kazan airport on a regular basis almost daily.
